Have I ever mentioned how much I love red hair? My husband has red hair (it was way more red when we first met at the age of 13 and has gotten lighter and more brown over the years) and I have always loved that. I think photographers in particular love red hair and freckles because it is so unique! I was SO excited about this family session because I did Mom’s headshots back in the Spring and she told me that all 3 of her children had her same red hair and freckles. They are really beautiful children and I had so much fun working with them! I don’t get a lot of older children in for family photos, so it was definitely a different vibe and pace working with a 6th grade boy than a 3 year old toddler, but I tried my best to make it as painless as possible for him! LOL! The girls were angels of course! We met up a little earlier than I normally shoot so we had some pretty harsh lighting to contend with at the start of the session. We found a shady patch near a field at the beach and then moved out onto the beach when the sun went down a little.
The family wore their own clothing, but I worked with Mom to coordinate their outfits and make sure what they chose would photograph well. I think they look preppy, cute and coordinated without being too matchy-matchy. Since moving here, I’ve noticed the preppy look is very popular in Coastal Connecticut with a lot of Vineyard Vines (shout out to a local company!) influence in the wardrobe styles here. They kept the colors light and airy which looked perfect on the beach!
